Super Chef Quest
Super Chef Quest
Being a master chef isn't an easy job. From wrangling wild muscle milk to toppling takoyakistacks and battling lemon fish, it takes a dedicated sort to make their way on the Cookie Plains. For Lemuel, following in his grandpappies footsteps and becoming a master chef has always been the dream. He's fought the fight, prepared the dishes, and collected the trophies to prove it. But something has changed in the Land of Milk and Cookies, formerly placid preparations have begun attacking young sous chef hopefuls, and much of the landscape has begun reshaping into impassable terrain. But worst of all, Lemuel's trophy collection has gone missing just before the great Chef Cookout! What, or who is the cause of all this trouble? And what can one lone owl do to save a world out of control? Lemuel is about to find out!
This game was built over 9 days for the Big Festive Jam hosted by the Game Developers Network. The theme for the jam was "exponential possibilities", so we chose to add a collection scheme to our game that would utilize the exponential property of recipes and ingredients (yes, there is a exponential formula that describes the relationship) to create trophies with fun pictures and interesting game facts/lore.
Note: If you're having trouble with the HTML build, please try the Windows build.

Very fun game. I loved the consistent art style and the graphics were my favorite part of this game. I still don't know how to open/pick up chests though and wasn't quite sure how exactly I needed to navigate the cooking menus or what the goal was with the cooking. But this is an incredible game jam game! A true gem and a tip of the hat to mario :)
The interact key is X on the keyboard and B on the controller.
Thankyou you for your love and support! We will keep working on this, finding a better way to communicate and guide players.
I would love to try your game out but the arrow keys don't seem to work? I also tried WASD, another browser and using a joystick but I couldn't do anything. Only DELETE works to restart the level. : (
If you have a gamepad plugged into your computer, it will default to using it. If you want to use the keyboard, then unplug your gamepad. Only the D-pad controls movement, joystick does not.
Thank you, that worked. I left feedback on the jam submission page.
Who is the psychopath that programmed jump button on B?
xDD just kidding, great job guys ^^
I love the art design <3 the game feels good on gamepad (except for that jump button on B), animations are awesome and I like the idea of mixing mariolike game and cooking game.
I hope you can finish the game so we can see its potential, good luck.
Understanding your question, we designed the control base on gba button (which only have D-pad, A and B), which have less button compare to nowadays controller. :D
Thank you for your love on every side! We will keep working on this game. ;)
Blame Super Mario, which I based the controls on for those who are familiar with said game.
Im not blaming anyone xD i was just kidding but maybe I didn't use the most appropriate words, my apologies.
Now that I know you've based the controls on supermario games it makes sense.
But even with that I would say that those controls made sense on old gamepads, because of the position of the buttons, but on modern gamepads it's a bit uncomfortable (at least for me) even the new supermario games have updated that.
Anyway, as I said, congratulations to the team, the game looks amazing and I like the idea. Keep up the good work ^^
I probably played too much NES/Gameboy then because I have no issues with it the way it is :(
We'll change up the controls later on then. :)
Wonderful visuals, music and overall polish. Very impressive for the jam. I'm just a bit confused on what to do in the level. If I go to the right there's eventually a wall I can't get past, and if I try to exit the level to the left or press escape, the game crashes. Anyway, great work guys.
You're right, I forgot the player can only jump 3 tiles high but put in 4 tile high walls. Here's a "post-jam game breaking bug fix" for that. We were supposed to have some mobs that you can jump on to get extra height, but they didn't make it in.
